AXIS Tech and RSE Partnership Bring New Biomass Boiler Plant to Ukraine

Jun 13, 2023

In a collaboration between AXIS Tech and Czech power equipment manufacturer RSE s.r.o., a biomass boiler plant has emerged in Okhtyrka, Sumy region of Ukraine. This remarkable achievement comes as a response to the devastating incident that occurred last year when the region’s sole power plant, responsible for providing heat, was tragically struck by Russian bombs. Doubts about the feasibility of rebuilding the old facility were cast aside as the team swiftly took action, constructing a new biomass boiler plant with an impressive capacity of 40 MW in less than four months. With the involvement of construction and installation specialists from RSE s.r.o., this outstanding project is probably the fastest project of its kind ever completed, as such projects typically take up to a year.

Our new partners RSE is a developer and manufacturer of industrial water-heating and steam boilers operating on biomass and natural gas. It combines traditions and innovations, and is inspired by the ideas of the most famous Czech inventor Erich Rouchka and the experience of modern designers. RSE provides individual energy solutions for all industries and communities in Europe and develops boiler equipment of any complexity individually for each customer with the highest possible efficiency and compliance with the strictest environmental standards.

The selection of renewable biomass as the primary energy source for this Ukrainian project was a well-considered decision. Unlike solar and wind power, which are dependent on weather conditions and intermittent in nature, biomass power derived from locally sourced materials can be stored and utilized as needed, establishing it as a reliable and consistent renewable energy source. This attribute makes biomass power ideal for baseload power generation, offering a stable supply of electricity day and night, unlike the variable nature of solar or wind energy. Furthermore, biomass energy can be derived from diverse sources such as forestry and agricultural waste products, ensuring flexibility in fuel supply and promoting sustainable waste management practices.

As the equipment supplier for this groundbreaking project, AXIS Tech assumed the responsibility of providing all necessary components to fuel the plant’s operations. Despite challenging circumstances, remote control of the installation, start-up, and maintenance of the energy equipment required for biomass combustion and heat production were successfully carried out. The Sumy biomass boiler plant holds a significant place in AXIS Tech’s portfolio, requiring the adoption of new work processes and innovative approaches to ensure the highest quality standards were upheld, even in a remote setting.
